The Butterfly Effect
The Butterfly Effect, or TBE, is one of my main original stories. It is the one I've been focusing on the second most overall.
It is the summer of 1958. After a tragedy, Edith Burnes' family are forced to pack up and move cross-state to Whatcom County, Washington State (USA). Although the town is mostly welcoming and friendly, she cannot shake the feeling she is going to struggle. As time goes on, this feeling grows.
What am I doing? Why am I here?
Edith Burnes is the protagonist of The Butterfly Effect. The story is told through her first-person perspective.
Edith is an intelligent and curious girl. To her, understanding things is the most important skill someone can have. She is very observant in the moment; she notices little behavioural habits and quirks people have. However, she can struggle to interpret what they mean. She also has a poor memory, so she writes frequently in her many journals and notebooks.
She is the daughter of Dennis and Martha Burnes and the older sister to Tomas Burnes. She is very close with Tomas, considering him a best friend for most of her life.
Hey, knock-knock! What? You've gotta answer!
Tomas Burnes is a major character in The Butterfly Effect.
Tomas is a happy kid. Despite the struggles he faces, he always manages to find something to smile about. He loves to spread smiles, too, having a fancy towards jokes. It is a habit of his to walk up to random people and start a conversation. Everyone considers him a good kid overall, even if he has a tendency to laugh at something in the middle of class or be very straight-forward and blunt in what he wants.
He is the son of Dennis and Martha Burnes and the younger brother to Edith Burnes. He is very close with Edith, considering her his best friend since the moment he knew what those were.
This is stupid! This is all so stupid!
Brandon Raine is a major character in The Butterfly Effect.
Safe to say, Brandon is academically gifted. He has always aced his exams on his core subjects. His work ethic is excellent to the point of being unnecessary. However, he heavily prides himself on this. When he finishes an exam first, he is sure to saunter up to the front desk with a smug smile. Most do not like him for this--especially Jeffrey Cob, who he has a very negative rapport with.
Brandon is the son of Kenneth and Linda Raine and the younger brother to Maxine Raine.
Remember, it's all going to be okay.
Maxine Raine is a major character in The Butterfly Effect.
When people see Maxine, they always have a positive experience with her. Her parents are complimented for raising her well. Her manners are on point and she never asks for more than she gives. Adults love her. This is, of course, on the off chance they actually see her. She almost never leaves the house. Much of the time which is spent outside is spend doing something mandatory.
She is the daughter of Kenneth and Linda Raine and the older sister to Brandon Raine.
I have to believe we can do it.
Angela Bloom is a major character in The Butterfly Effect.
Angela is a faithful person. She is a big believer in second chances and fresh chapters. Loyalty is very important to her; the people and ideals she cares about always come first. If things had their typical way, she would be a wallflower: rarely heard and noticed even less. While she is a friendly, smart girl, she is extremely quiet. Of course, life cannot let her have her way.
Hey! Don't blame me for your bullshit!
Jeffrey Cob is a major character in The Butterfly Effect.
Jeffrey is described as many things: a rambunctious rebel, a nuisance, and a pain in the backside, among other things. He belongs to the town's group of greasers, being their youngest member. Like his friends, he has little respect for authority and rules. His motto is essentially 'my life, my choice'. However, he does have a genuine nice side. He is very much capable of caring about people and things, no matter how much of his time is spent yelling rude things to people during lunch breaks.
I cannot believe I'm doing this!
Cassidy Lock is a major character in The Butterfly Effect.
Cassidy is beloved by her town. She is an academic marvel, prom queen, and high school sweetheart all wrapped in one. She goes out of her way to do favours for people and generally nice things. As stated, her grades are off the charts, but she is sure to remain humble in the eyes of others. Her dedication is great; giving up is only ever a last resort. Most either want to be her or want to be her friend.
She is dating Benny Woods.
Look on the bright side, at least we never have to do that again.
Benny Woods is a major character in The Butterfly Effect.
Benny is the man, so to speak. He serves as the quarterback of his high school football team and is well deserving of the title. While his grades can be a little shoddy, he makes up for it with a sense of humour and a flash of a smile. Sport and his social life seem to make up everything in his existence. He presents himself as an optimistic and go-getter person who always tries to encourage others.
